Premier Brian Pallister wrapped up the Council of the Federation in Edmonton yesterday.
Pallister was rallying for support to demand that the federal government allow more time to properly legalize marijuana.
The Premier shares his concerns with the legalization.
“I am very concerned about the impact on those who choose to use the product in terms of making sure the product is safe, it is distributed in a safe manner, and that they are protected,” explained Pallister. “I am also concerned about the safety of those who choose not to use the product. Who may be impacted by others who choose to use it and then choose to make wrong decisions, like drive stoned for example. And finally I am concerned about the educational aspects of this; we need to make sure that young people in particular understand clearly the dangers of consuming cannabis and then getting behind the wheel as an example.”
The legislation is set to pass by July 2018.
