It was a full house at the Watson Art Centre this afternoon when Dauphin mayor Eric Irwin delivered his state of the city address.
Irwin says he was pleased with the enthusiasm in the crowd at today’s event, and the work of city council has had a lot to do with that.
"Really it's just about how Dauphin's on the move and there's a lot of projects going on. At city council we're trying to generate real confidence and enthusiasm in the community and I think you could see it in the crowd."
Economic development was one of the main topics at today’s speech, and Irwin says there are several projects in the works to help boost that.
"I know that there's a new hanger going up at the airport, there's a couple of projects going on in the industrial park. The hospital expansion is coming on, there's a new elevator getting built in the east end of town, new retail starting downtown, a new apartment block going up for eco housing just across the road here. There's an awful lot going on right now and a lot of other stuff in the works where people aren't quite ready to make their announcements yet."
Irwin also praised the work of city council in lowering municipal taxes over the past few years saying that it will make Dauphin a more economically competitive city in the long term.
