The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Support Youth Group held their first meeting on April 12th at the Dauphin Friendship Centre.
The goal was to provide a safe place where LGBTQ youth and adults to could feel respected, supported and empowered.
Terra Matthews, Urban Partnerships Co-ordinator for the DFC, felt the initial meeting was a huge success.
"The event went over fantastically well, I'm so happy about the turnout [...] we had one family come in from out of town looking to support their transgender son / grandson, and it was so wonderful to see this grandpa come in and say you know, 'What can I do to support my grandson?' and that was just amazing."
The group is planning on meeting on a regular basis in the future.
