Not even the blizzard that left most of Southern Manitoba covered in snow on Tuesday was going to stop refugee claimants from crossing the border in Emerson.

The number of refugee claimants crossing the border into Emerson this year continues to climb.

Between February 28th and March 3rd, 40 maybe the trip across the U-S border.

Emerson Reeve Greg Janzen says he was shocked to hear how many people were crossing during the blizzard.

"We had another seventeen (...) we had our fire department and first responders go out on a medical call. I just can't believe that they would attempt that, in that kind of weather."

According to Janzen, some of the claimants were found huddled near a home just north of his community after sunrise on Tuesday morning.
