The total continues to rise in the number of people affected by the mumps in Manitoba.
On average, the province regularly deals with four to five cases a year. However, as of Feb 24th, Manitoba has already dealt with 176 cases.
Dr. Jas Atwal with Prairie Mountain Health believes that Manitoba isn't alone in dealing with this outbreak.
"There are other jurisdictions in Canada that is dealing with this outbreak, and also in the US. What we are predominantly seeing in Manitoba is younger individuals who are getting mumps."
Dr. Atwal says that the best way to protect yourself from the disease is to get vaccinated.
