A new aerial ladder truck for the Dauphin Fire Department has passed an inspection from the chief himself.
Fire Chief Cam Abrey went to Quebec last week to check out a new truck the DFD is purchasing after the old aerial ladder truck had an electrical fire.
Abrey says the truck really exceeded expectations for a 14 year old unit.
"It's in immaculate condition. We were able to, you know, not only take it for a test drive but we got the aerial, the platform, up in the air. We were able to operate from the turntable, from the basket itself, we're flowing water with it, pumping water. Yeah, and, not only is it more than capable of meeting our requirements fire protection-wise, but this truck itself looks like it's only a couple of years old. It's in such great condition."
Abrey says the truck is in Quebec right now. There is still some testing to be done and they are upgrading the lights to LED and refreshing the paint job. From there it will go to Winnipeg for a bit more work to be done, and then it's on its way to Dauphin.
The fire department is predicting end of June/early July for the truck's arrival.
