Qualifying emergency medical services providers in Manitoba can now get a special member-based licence plate.

Crown Services Minister Ron Schuler announced the new licence plates today, saying "it is a distinctive way for active and retired paramedics to demonstrate the bonds that unite them."

The plates are available to current and retired licensed EMS providers, as well as their immediate families.

The plate will be blue in colour with a red EKG line crossing the bottom, and it will have the phrase 'Responding for Life.' The plate also contains a paramedic Star of Life on top of a red maple leaf.

The plates cost $70, $30 of which will go to the Winnipeg and Manitoba region of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
