Manitoba Pork Producers is welcoming the provincial governments recent commitment to repealing the Manitoba Farm Building Code.
The amended Manitoba Building Code will mean that producers are no longer forced to incorporate unnecessary requirements into the construction of barns.
Manitoba Pork Chair George Matheson feels the following decision will benefit pork producers in the long run.
"We're quite hopeful that producers will save tens of thousands of dollars when building their barns, and it will help our industry stay competitive with other jurisdictions while still maintaining a high level of safety standards to protect farm workers and farm livestock."
Manitoba Pork representatives says the provincial pork industry contributes over $1.7 billion and 13,000 jobs to Manitoba's economy each year.
