Icy roads may be no more with a new form of organic salt hitting the roads.
The community of La Broquerie began using the mixture of water, salt and beet juice to combat icy roads recently noticing an immediate effect.
Greenhouse Head Supervisor at Birss Greenhouse Soil in Dauphin Bev Winniski began using the salt in December 2016 with effective results.
"It doesn't affect your concrete, it won't eat through your wood decking, it won't kill your grass, it doesn't hurt your animals, it's faster acting... it eventually ends up building up a layer, it adheres to the area it's applied to."
Winniski also says that the new salt has already been shipped to areas in Ontario and Quebec.
