Colder temperatures are in the forecast, however frozen ice around the Parkland could still be quite unstable.
Last week Southern Manitoba experienced warmer then usual temperatures, with some areas beginning to melt.
Dauphin resident Pam Shuttleworth was informed of her 14-year-old step-daughter falling through ice on the Vermillion river yesterday while she was at work.
"Her and her friend had seen a waterfall -- a trickle of water or something and they wanted to go look at it --- and they were walking and the ice there was no sound of cracking or anything, and they both fell right through the ice up to about chest level... there was a current so their feet couldn't even touch the bottom, and when her friend was trying to pull herself on top of the ice the ice just kept on cracking around them."
Shuttleworth confirmed that both her daughter and friend are safe, and wants to remind residents to sit down with your children and remind them about ice safety.
