A Parkland municipality has a new emergency notification system.
Russell-Binscarth is using the CodeRED system, contracting with Emergency Communications Network.
The municipality says in a press release The CodeRED system allows municipal officials to deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire community quickly, but according to Mayor Len Derkach, "the system can only be as good as the telephone number database supporting it."
Individuals and businesses can add their own numbers to the database and Municipal Emergency Coordinator Wes Anderson is encouraging residents to follow the links on the Russell-Binscarth website to sign up. Those without Internet access can also call the municipal office.
The press release says no one should assume their phone number is included.
