RMNP's north sign and early snowfall in the park
It's been a tough winter for trail grooming in Riding Mountain National Park.

Tom Carberry, who volunteers as a trail groomer in the Riding Mountain Trail Stewards Association's north end ski group, says the trails have been a mess this winter.

"Between all the rain in the fall and the heavy snow that came, and there was that ice rain just before the heavy snow, the trees are down, the branches, the hazel has all fallen over the trails."

Carberry says due to the overwhelming amount of work, their group was asked to help out.

It's been so bad, Carberry says it took four people about 30 hours to clear approximately eight kilometres of trail.

As of last Friday, Carberry says Beach Ridges and Crawford Creek are tracked and groomed, the west-side of Broadleaf is cleared and machine-packed, and Edward's Creek is cleared but needs to be tracked and groomed.

Carberry encourages everyone to get out, calling the park a winter wonderland right now.
