A DRCSS grad has been appointed to the Order of Canada.

Dr. David Barber was born and raised in Dauphin, and is currently a professor at the University of Manitoba.

"It's a wonderful recognition, really," says Dr. Barber.

Dr. Barber is being recognized for his leadership in environmental science and for his contributions to the study of arctic sea ice processes.

He says he's humbled, and it's thrilling to be recognized for his work on climate change and the arctic.

Dr. Barber says he's been working in the high arctic on sea ice for the past 30 years or so. He says in his career he's gone from being a skeptic of climate change to being very concerned about what he's seeing and the implications it has.

Governor General David Johnston recently appointed 100 people to the Order of Canada. He notes 2017 is not only Canada's 150th anniversary, but also the 50th anniversary for the Order of Canada.
