As the opioid crisis continues to rise in Manitoba, every front-line RCMP officer in the province is now equipped with a naloxone kit.

Naloxone is used to treat an opioid overdose in an emergency situation.

Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy has got naloxone kits as well. Though it's not as if they want to market naloxone, pharmacist Barret Procyshyn says it can be a matter of life and death, and it's better to have these kits out there than none at all.

"What we're telling people is if you are in a situation where there is drug use going on nearby or in your home, or you know about it in your community and you're worried about a loved one, or yourself, you should come in and have one of these kits on hand."

RCMP say naloxone is a tool for police to use in some situations, but the reality is opioids can be fatal quickly.
