Winter is just around the corner, and Manitoba drivers are using winter tires in unprecedented numbers.
According to the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) in a new survey, 50 per cent of drivers ion the province are now using winter tires.
Director of Operations for TRAC, Barry Yutronkie says coverage and assistance have helped in recent years.
"There's more media, more industry involvement trying to get the message out... you know in Manitoba , you also have the Manitoba Public Insurance which is offering the interest free loans for assistance with purchasing winter tires so kind of everything in concert with each other."
In a 2014 study by TRAC, only 39 per cent of Manitoba drivers were riding on winter tires.
