For Canadian music enthusiasts today is a day that stands out.
52 years ago at around 2 pm, the Beatles arrived at Winnipeg International Airport for a routine refuelling stop, on their way to Los Angeles to begin the group's first North American tour. The news quickly spread, as thousands of eager fans descended on the airport to get a glimpse of the iconic Fab Four.
Although the visit lasted only 22 minutes, this was the first appearance by the Beatles in Canada marking the moment in Canadian music history.
Winnipeg Music Historian and Author, John Einarson says he wishes he would have been in attendance during the historic event (Einarson would have been roughly 12 years old at the time).
He further added, "It's kind of neat that Winnipeg has this Beatles first...somehow someone found the two rock and roll radio stations in town and they announced it."
