Kyla Suss is the recipient of this years Ernest and Elizabeth McGirr Award for Academic Excellence.
This award offers an entrance scholarship to an undergraduate student at the University of Manitoba who has graduated from the DRCSS and has acheived a miniumum average of 90% on courses considered for the University of Manitoba General Entrance Scholarship Program.
Suss says she didn't know about the award until last year.
"This year I was really trying to figure out how to apply for it but apparently you don't apply and the University picks one of the Dauphin kids."
On top of winning that, she received $17,025 that was included.
"It was hard work and a little bit of luck my family keeps saying cause there were a few students that got a higher average then me, but they weren't going to the University of Manitoba" says Suss.
Suss is enrolled in the University one program right now, but is hoping to do Respiratory Therapy and then do a Masters for Occupational Therapy.
