While running your errands it's reminded of you to not leave your pet  locked in the vehicle.
Constable, Cameron Allison says even leaving your dog in the vehicle with the window cracked or parked in the shade is not okay.

"It doesn't really do much. Ideally, if it's a hot day and you are going to be out of your vehicle don't bring your pet with you, it just gets too hot in the vehicle too quickly. Your vehicle can reach in the high 40's rather quickly."

Allison adds that if you do see an animal in distress, it's just best to call 911.

"It is against the law under the criminal code you know, it's animal cruelty. So in that case police can respond if the animal is distressed."

Under the criminal code, cruelty to animals can lead to jail time and a fine up to $5,000 but this is only for extreme cases.
