After a car and a tanker collided in Dauphin a couple of weeks ago, the City is considering creating a new route for large vehicles.

The accident happened at the CIBC intersection of 2nd Ave NW and Main Street, which Mayor Eric Irwin says is tight, adding that many large trucks have a tough time making wide turns.

The proposed route would have trucks entering the city from the west turning at the fire hall and the Dauphin Liquor Mart to end up at 1 Ave NW instead.

Irwin says it would be easier for larger vehicles to turn there once they get to Main Street.

"[Trucks] won't have any problem turning those corners. They're not tight like they are at 2nd and Main. The buildings are right up to the street at 2nd and Main, and they're not at the other location, so I think that's the answer."

Irwin says the city still needs to do more consultations, so it could be another couple of months before the route is finalized and signs are put up.
