With her family by her side, Cynthia Nepinak passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Monday.
Chief Derek Nepinak shared this in a Facebook post.
"Principal Nepinak loved all the kids in the community and welcomed every child with open arms and a hug. She took personal responsibility for the safety and success of every child who walked into Minegoziibe Anishinabe School," said Chief Nepinak. "Principal Nepinak lived her life with purpose and impacted many children and parents right to her last day."
Counselling is now available at the Bluesky Family Resource Centre for anyone who needs it.
The school will remain closed for the remainder of the week.
In a Facebook post, Derek Nepinak announced that Minegoziibe Anishinabe School will be closed this upcoming week, October 21-25.
The closure is due to a very sad situation regarding the health of the school principal, Mrs. Cynthia Nepinak.
Updates are expected to be provided in the coming days.
Council will also be arranging for grief counsellors that will be visiting the community in the coming days.
Children are asked to remain at home with their families.
