Grade five students in Mountain View School Division will soon be taking part in a mental health survey.
The students will be assessed on their state of their mental health through a short questionnaire.
Superintendent Donna Davidson says it's a crucial time in a child's life to assess their mental health.
"When you speak about Grade five as that entry point or that area of checking and assessing, that's the stage when you look at developing resiliency in students, that's the stage when you look at students taking a look at themselves and looking at the strengths they bring to their communities and their schools and their life."
Davidson says, based on the results of the survey, more mental health supports may be looked into going forward. However, she says with a new provincial government in charge, the division might have to take a wait and see approach as to how the new government will handle education and mental health funding.
The surveys will be conducted throughout the month of May.
The only MVSD school that will not be participating is Roblin Elementary.
Parents can have their child opt out of the survey by contacting the school's office.
