Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship has placed temporary fishing restrictions for Dauphin Lake.

The restrictions ban commercial and recreational fishing on the lake, and aboriginal rights holders must release any walleye caught between 45 and 70 cm in length.

The measures are meant to protect walleye populations in Dauphin Lake during the spawning season.

The board says, once the spawning season has concluded, the fishing restrictions will be lifted.

The 2016 fishing season begins May 14.
