After working on this plan for three years, there's a decision that needs to be made.
On April 18th the Gilbert Plains Hall Committee will be holding a public meeting in relation to the decision of either getting a new town hall, repairing the hall, or shutting down the hall until they can come up with the funds.
Blake Price, chair of the Gilbert Plains Hall Sub Committee says that as a committee they cant make a decision without having community input.
"It's time to make a decision. Either we are going to go one way or the other. We are either going to build a new hall or we are going to fix the old one and both of them are really costly and we've got to decide if that's the direction we are going to go, then which one are we will to commit to as a community."
Over the past three years there has been funding, but funding is still an issue that they face with their decision. Price says so far there has been lot's of local funding but are thinking of getting government grants to help out.
"A lot of it for the most part is local funding projects and stuff. There has been some people who have committed funding for the project. The local municipality has committed some funds but I think where we are going now is to meet the funding goals, we do need the participation from the local community."
Price says to build a whole new hall it would cost 1.3 million and just to do renovations on the hall would cost about $700-thousand dollars.
The meeting starts at 7:30pm and is at the Gilbert Plains Hall. All are welcomed to attend.
