One man is in critical but stable condition following an attack and fire in Brandon yesterday.
Brandon Police Service received a call at around 1:15 pm on Monday about a man allegedly attacking people with a hammer on 15th Street.
While investigating that, a 9-1-1 call came in regarding a fire in the same area.
One man was pulled from the burning building, who an investigation determined had been assaulted by the alleged suspect of the assault.
He was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
A container of accelerant and a hammer were recovered at the scene of the fire, leading police to believe that the fire was deliberately set.
A second adult male was found to have been hit in the head with a hammer but only suffered minor injuries.
Police arrested a 32-year-old man and charged him with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and arson with disregard for human life.
They say the suspect and the victims are known to each other.
