Dauphin's Mayor Has recently received some national recognition from the Canadian Parks And Recreation Association.
Mayor David Bosiak was 1 of 4 people in Canada to receive the CPRA Award of Merit this year, and he says he didn't see it coming.
"I was very surprised by the award. I know that I have been involved with the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association for many years, back to the time that I was the Recreation Director here in Dauphin. So I have always been a huge advocate of parks and recreation. And so to be acknowledged by them for one of their awards was quite meaningful to me."
"It is really nice to be recognized by them for work done, but there are a lot of other people that have done a lot of good work as well. Again, it is just a nice feeling to know that sometimes the work that you do does get recognized by your peers in the field."
While the recognition may have been a surprise to Bosiak, it is no surprise that he won, as his focus on community building really shows in Dauphin.
"I think having a vibrant recreation delivery system, whether that is facilities such as the rec complex with the swimming pool, or the theatre, the library, Northgate trails - all of those things add to the quality of our life and I think recreation is a big part of that."
Bosiak also notes the importance of this work, as recreation creates a thriving and vibrant community
