The Winnipegosis Centennial Committee is optimistic that last night's strong turnout for the Snowbirds can carry over to other events throughout the weekend.
Committee member Barret Procyshyn says more than 2,000 people turned out for the Snowbirds show, and he says it's just the start of a number of events that he's excited for.
"Friday night we've got Bearcat coming in, that's going to be awesome; Saturday there's a social at the arena, so get your tickets for that; there's a parade going on Saturday; and Sunday, Ray St. Germain; Asham Stompers; fireworks; Nelson Little Band; Slow Motion Walter, an amazing classic rock band. How can you go wrong? It's free."
Procyshyn called the snowbird show "unbelievable" despite the show's length being reduced.
Not smoke, but a haze limited some of the actions the Snowbirds could perform.
"They need to be able to not only see each other but also see the horizon as a reference point. And the haze made the water and the sky look like one colour, and that was causing them some issues. So they still did the show, they just were limited in the moves they could do."
