Director Liz Garbus says her documentary about Nina Simone is the film she's been practicing to make all her life. The movie ``What Happened, Miss Simone?'' explores Simone's life from the time a white teacher recognized Simone's piano talent and offered her lessons through her rise to fame, her involvement in civil rights and her self-imposed exile in Liberia. The film premiered last week at the Sundance Film Festival. After the credits rolled, John Legend took the stage for a Simone tribute concert. He says he studies Simone's versions of songs, ``thinking about her words, thinking about her boldness, thinking about her commitment to justice.''
