Ralph Eichler was re-elected as the MLA for Lakeside in last month's provincial election, and was given his new cabinet position earlier this week.
Eichler has a wealth of experience in agriculture and government. He says he grew up on a farm, worked for the Lakeside school board, and from there, he was back into farming.
"I went into the livestock equipment business. I had me a commercial herd, then I got into the purebred-simmental business, and then I sold out in 1999 and got involved in politics and was elected in 2003."
As a former agriculture critic for the Progressive Conservatives, Eichler says the transition to his new role should be a fairly easy one.
