The Dauphin Clippers varsity boys soccer team is playing in the Minnedosa Tournament today.

In their first game they lost to Steinbach, 6-0.

That was followed up with a 6-1 loss against Swan River.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are now in danger of dropping to third in the West Division.

They were outplayed in pretty much every aspect of the game on Friday night against Hamilton in a 33-13 defeat.

Despite throwing for 304 yards, Chris Streveler only threw for one touchdown and he threw two interceptions. Dane Evans was 25-of-32 for Hamilton for 359 yards and he had three touchdowns.

Kenny Lawler was solid for Winnipeg as he recieved for 144 yards. Other than that, not much went on. Andrew Harris was next up receving wise with just 34 yards and he rushed for just 37.

Hamilton had three receivers with at least 80 yards. Brandon Banks led the way with 113 yards. The turning point of the game was the second quarter when Hamilton outscored Winnipeg, 17-3.

Now in second place, if Saskatchewan wins on Saturday, they'll move into second place in the West Divison and the Bombers (9-5) will be in third.

Winnipeg plays next weekend in Saskatchewan.

The Moose Jaw Warriors scored early on Friday night and they held Brandon off the scoreboard for the entire night as they blanked the Wheat Kings, 5-0 inside of Westoba Place.

On a night where Brandon put up just 22 shots, they couldn't really get anything going and Bailey Brkin came up clutch when he needed to.

Moose Jaw, meanwhile, got multi-point games from five different players en route to their second straight win of the season.

Dave Lowry shared his thoughts on the game.

"I really liked the way we started the game. It was disappointing that we were down after 20 because we did a lot of good things," said Lowry. "We played with a lot of pace and that's a definite positive."

"Obviously we don't like the final score or outcome, but we knew coming into this year that it was going to be a process," he continued. "We'll talk more about getting in for second chances and that sort of thing."

7:41 into the opening period, Eric Alarie put up Moose Jaw 1-0 with his first of the season as the club led 1-0. That's when the Taphorn's took the game over. With 5:02 left in the first, Kaeden Taphorn scored his first of the campaign. Carson Denomie and Jadon Joseph picked up the assists.

Already up 2-0, Moose Jaw kept it going in the second. This time it was Keenan Taphorn's turn. He scored his third of the season as he continued his great start with Ryder Korczak and Eric Alarie getting the assists. The goal really sank the Wheat Kings ship as there was just 2:32 left in the midway frame.

Through 40 minutes, Brandon was down 3-0 and they only had 15 shots.

"We simply didn't get enough second chances tonight and we didn't go hard enough to the net," continued Lowry. "It's early in the season, we'll work on it."

Up 3-0 early in the third, it was Tate Popple's turn. The forward notched his second of the early season just 5:43 into the period. Ryder Korczak picked up his second assist of the game.

With the game already well decided, Moose Jaw made sure they would make their trip home with a handful of goals. With just 22 seconds left, Jadon Joseph notched his first of the season. Kaeden Taphorn and Carson Denomie both had an assist to complete their two point nights."

Brandon will head on the road on Saturday night to complete a home-and-home with the Warriors.

What a start it was for Brayden Dube. He scored five times as the Parkland Bantam Rangers kicked off their season by beating Interlake, 7-2 on Friday night in Warren.

Carter Zalischuk and Domi Leask also scored for Parkland in the game.

The team is off until next weekend when they head to Winnipeg for their first Showcase of the season.

The Parkland U18 Rangers kicked off their season on Friday night at Credit Union Place.

Keaton Ziprick was very solid, but the Rangers couldn't get going anything offensively in a 4-0 loss to the Thrashers. Ziprick made 42 saves in the game.

21 of them came in the first as Parkland trailed just 1-0 after 20. In the second they scored three goals on 11 shots. The third period saw Winnipeg score no goals on 13 shots while the Rangers came out with nothing on nine shots.

Parkland is back at it on Saturday night. They welcome the Interlake Lightning to Credit Union Place.

The Dauphin Clippers football team played a competitive game but they lost to Parkwest today, 16-9.

Rookie QB Thomas Scott showed signs of solid play throughout the game.

“We were pleased with our offensive line, Thomas was never really touched and that’s a positive,” said Cam Bennet. “We missed some tackles defensively that led them to getting some big plays, but for the most part they played well.”

“We saw a lot of good things out there, we’re improving every week,” he continued.

Dauphin now heads to Virden next Sunday.

“We’ll work hard throughout the week and we’ll build on our positives,” Bennet concluded.

Today on the Dauphin Kings power play show, Andrew Liwiski and Cole DeKoninck joined to play "Are you the Smartest Dauphin King?".

After week one, the standings are as followed:

Liwiski - 26.

DeKoninck - 11.

Andrew will join again next week as he looks to increase his score. The game will continue all season long until the very end when we crown a winner! That winner can call themselves the "Smartest Dauphin King".

The Dauphin Clippers varsity boys soccer team had a solid game against Grandview.

In the game, Jaden Tran, Landon Brown, Craig Allard, Janis Albertin, Gage Geletchuk, Ruven Albertin, and Mike Chartrand scored.

Dauphin plays in a tournament tomorrow in Minnedosa.

No matter how far the Winnipeg Blue Bombers go this season, it'll be without Matt Nichols. Nichols has been sidelined for the remainder of the season after he underwent surgery from an injury that was expected to keep him out for about six weeks.

It was deemed that the injury required surgery and it will keep him out for the rest of the regular season and playoffs. The injury sidelined him on August 15.

Chris Streveler will remain the man at centre for Winnipeg. Sean McGuire will be the back up to Chris and Trevor Knight has been added to the practice roster as the team's third string quarterback.

A Winnipeg Blue Bombers game day preview against Hamilton will be right here on 730CKDM on Friday morning.

It was quite the start to the season for Riese Gaber. Playing on the Dubuque Fighting Saints, the club won their opening game of the USHL season over Muskegon, 4-1 this morning.

"I think the team is really confident and we played like that today," said Gaber. "We just need to keep playing to our best and if we do that, we can have success."

"It was a big confidence booster for everyone on our team. Muskegon always has a good group," he added. "It was nice to start off against them especially because they ended our season last year."

The win didn't come without some help from the Gilbert Plains native. Riese tied the game in the second period with a goal and he got the secondary assist on the team's third goal of the game. Gaber joined Ty Jackson and Mark Cheremeta as the three Fighting Saints' who recorded multi-point games.

"I think that was a big one for me. It was a good start for me and I can really build off it," continued Gaber. "If I'm playing my best every night, I feel like I should be able to put those numbers up consistently."

425 fans packed the stands at the Covestro Inovation Rink in Pittsburgh. That includes the coaching staff from the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks. That's where Riese will be playing Division 1 hockey next season.

"They were really happy with it and I was as well," continued Gaber. "It's always nice to show them what they'll be getting."

The club is back at it tomorrow morning against Madison. They kick off October with their Home Opener on the 5.

The Dauphin Kings kicked off their season last weekend against the Swan Valley Stampeders. On Friday, Nakodan Greyeyes opened the scoring but the team dropped their opener, 6-3.

In their home opener, Dauphin turned things around. After giving up the first goal, the team scored five straight to take a 5-1 lead and they ended up winning 6-4.

That game featured Baron Thompson scoring his first two goals and Brendan Arnold also scored. On Friday, Greyeyes scored two goals.

After two days of practice, Dauphin was right back at it on Tuesday. They played the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and they lost 4-2. It was the first time in this young season that Dauphin hasn't scored at least three goals. A bright spot in that loss was the team's defence.

After allowing 80 in their first two games, Dauphin allowed just 25 shots.

"We have a ton of skill in the dressing room and we know that it's just about working it all together," said Andrew Liwiski. "We're still building chemistry, it's so early in the season."

Also in that game, Cole DeKoninck scored his first goal of the season, on the powerplay. Cole had 11 last year in the regular season.

"Lamotte and Greyeyes were working down low and Eha was in front and then Laflamme made the pass to me," said DeKoninck. "I just tried missing the bodies in front and I was able to get it in."

"It boosted my confidence, but it's all about the defensive zone for myself," continued DeKoninck. "Scoring is nice, but winning hockey games is all that matters."

Moving forward, Dauphin gets the next few days off of game action. They play in the MJHL Showcase on Monday and Tuesday in Winnipeg.

On Monday, the Parkland battle resumes as Dauphin plays Swan Valley. On Tuesday, the Kings' take on the Selkirk Steelers.

Both games are set for 6:00 p.m. We will not have the broadcasts of the game. Darnell Duff has the next broadcast on October 11 in Steinbach.

"We know how we can play and we showed that in the last 10 minutes of the third period against Waywayseecappo," said Liwiski. "We just need to bring that momentum into Winnipeg and make good things happen."

Make sure you stay tuned for the Dauphin Kings Power Play Show tomorrow afternoon. Darnell Duff kicks things off with a special edition just after the 4:00 p.m. news, weather, and sports.
