Elections Manitoba is reporting a strong opening few days of advanced voting ahead of next Tuesday's provincial election.
Advanced voting began on Saturday, and in the first few days, over 69,000 ballots were cast province-wide.
That includes roughly 32,000 on Saturday alone, well above the single-day record for advanced votes in the 2019 election, which was 22,000 votes.
Throughout the 2019 election, a total of 131,000 advanced ballots were cast.
Officials believe the strong response so far could be due in part to changes that have made it easier to vote this year
Manitobans can now cast ballots at any of the 300 polling stations across the province, instead of being restricted to the station closest to their home.

With the Provincial election rapidly approaching, CKDM took to the streets to hear about the issues that matter to you.
Both the New Democrats and the Progressive Conservatives are hot on the campaign trail in the Dauphin riding.
The NDP has spoken extensively on increased funding for healthcare across the province, While many PC announcements are discussing tax cuts and home funding.
When asked what the people of Dauphin are focusing on, some take a big-picture approach to the issues.
"The economy, but you know, every election is always healthy. Everybody works on health. Promises are made on health years and years ago, and they're never filled. When the economy is strong, everything else fits into it."
Another person interviewed had a more focused approach to the increasing crime in rural areas. More specifically;
"The Drugs that are running rampant. If there's a way to get rid of it, just get rid of it."
one thing that everyone interviewed had in common is a resounding message for everyone:
Be sure to get out and vote, and have your voice be heard on the matters that are important to you.
Advanced polls are already open, and the election is set for October 3rd.

The Portage La Prairie RCMP are currently looking for a missing teen.
On September 21, 2023, at 10:30 am, the Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a missing 13-year-old female from a residence located on 9th Street NW in the City of Portage la Prairie.
Tyeanna Daniels was last seen in her home on the evening of September 20.
She’s described as being 5’3” in height, 85 lbs with long dark brown hair and brown eyes. It is possible she may currently be in the City of Brandon.

Friday marked the fifth anniversary of the disappearance of a Skownan First Nation man, and police are hoping someone may have some information that can help them locate him.
Dwayne Lavallee was just 21 years old when he was last seen on September 22nd, 2018, filling up a vehicle at a store on the Ebb & Flow First Nation.
His vehicle was located four days later north of Ste Rose during a ground search.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Ste Rose RCMP detachment, or Manitoba Crimestoppers.

Voters in the Dauphin constituency will choose between just two candidates for our MLA when they go to the polls on October 3rd.
The Dauphin riding is one of eight across Manitoba that does not have a Liberal candidate running in it.
Both Ron Kostyshyn of the NDP and Gord Wood of the PC say they are working to try and secure those votes from people who would otherwise have voted for another party locally.
Kostyshyn feels his party's platform is appealing to voters from other parties.
"I think there are a lot of ingredients that we talk about as the NDP party that the Green party appreciates, that the Liberal party appreciates, and people that are with the government of today - the Conservative party - are also liking our language. And we are there as the NDP party to be a good representative for Dauphin and the province of Manitoba."
Meanwhile Wood says with just two candidates running, they are working hard to get every vote that they can.
"We want to make sure that we are connecting and that everybody understands the issues and the platforms and supports that our party has. So it is going to be close in that regard, but that is exciting. That is what makes elections exciting when you know that every vote can matter."

Street construction work begins Monday on three different roads in Dauphin.
According to a release from the city, work will occur on River Avenue from the North junction of PTH 20 to Main Street North by the courthouse.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is in charge of that project, which is expected to wrap up in about a week's time.
The city adds road closures will be in effect while work is being done.
Meanwhile, work will also be done on 1st Avenue NE from Main Street to 4th Street NE, as well as on 2nd Avenue NW from Main Street to Provincial Road 362.
The city says they will provide updates on road closures and completion dates for construction on both of those projects as the work progresses.

A response to a dispute at a residence in the Pas has led to an arrest and the seizure of drugs.
According to a release, officers attended to this call in the early hours of September 20th where a male suspect was uttering threats.
upon his arrest, officers noticed firearm parts, drugs, and paraphernalia.
A warranted search of the home led to the seizure of a crossbow, homemade weapons, approximately 40 grams of cocaine, a small quantity of methamphetamine, prescription medication and drug paraphernalia.
a 28-year-old female is facing a charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. She was released from custody with an upcoming court date.
the initial arrest, 30 year old Joshua Corchene is charged with 3 counts of uttering threats, and for counts of Weapons Possession Contrary to an Order.
The RCMP's investigation continues.

The Parkland Humane Society Hosted their first Paws For A Cause Walk and Run today and it was a huge hit!
Over 60 people preregistered to take part in the run, and several more signed up just before the event kicked off.
The run started just after 10 a.m., but not after a quick warm-up.
Once the run finished, the large group convened to enter into some prize draws, eat some burgers, and listen to some live music.
The humane society was unable to give a full tally of the money raised at this event, but estimates from various event organizers range from the high hundreds to thousands of dollars.
The Parkland Humane Society is already looking forward to doing this again next year after all the support they've received today!

Unionized employees at two Extendicare long-term care facilities in Winnipeg have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.
And CUPE - the union that represents the close to 350 employees at Extendicare's Oakview Place and Maples locations - says they expect to secure similar mandates at other Extendicare facilities in the province if the employer does not improve their offer
Bargaining is underway or is set to begin this fall at all nine Extendicare facilities in Manitoba, including two in Brandon.
The union says there is significant disparity between the wages and contracts of CUPE members working in Extendicare facilities and those working in publicly run long-term care facilities

R-C-M-P say they have recovered tens of thousands of dollars in property stolen from areas across much of southern Manitoba.
Mounties executed a search warrant Wednesday near Gimli and say they found stolen motor vehicles, generators, commercial tools, and more.
Officers also seized a carbine-style firearm with several rounds of ammunition.
Two men and a woman were arrested and face charges including possession of stolen property.

Manitobans can get an early jump on voting for the provincial election, beginning this weekend.
Advanced voting is offered from September 23rd to 30th at over 300 locations across the province. A full list of locations can be found online at www.electionsmanitoba.ca, or by calling 204-945-3225.
Mike Ambrose is the director of communications and public information with Elections Manitoba. He says advanced voting runs daily from September 23rd to the 30th.
"In Dauphin, there will be advanced voting at the local election office, which is at 1550 Main Street South, as well as at the Dauphin Marketplace Mall. Advanced polls are open from 8 am to 8 pm daily, and Sunday from noon until 6 pm."
Voters are reminded to bring a government-issued photo identification, or two other pieces of ID that contain your current address.
You are also encouraged to bring your voter information card that you would have received in the mail.
Ambrose says there are other options in case you do not have your photo ID or voter's information card.
"They can be vouched for. And that would require someone else from the electoral division who is registered and has ID to confirm their identity, and that person would also have to be already registered as well."
"Someone who has ID, but does not have their voter information card, it just takes a couple of extra seconds to find their name on the voter's list without the voter information card," added Ambrose.
