The province is recommending people who use water from Dauphin Lake take precautions after a dog died from drinking water suspected to have contained algae toxins.
The Medical Officer of Health is recommending not drinking inadequately treated lake water, not swimming or bathing in the lake where there are visible algae blooms, not letting pets and farm animals have contact with the water, and not eating fish from the lake if there is a visible bloom.
An advisory says boiling the water will not remove algae toxins and neither will adding chlorine.
The advisory will remain in effect until there is evidence that the water doesn't present a public health risk.
