A Dauphin RCMP officer is facing charges, including two counts of theft under $5,000.

RCMP say the Dauphin detachment received a report on March 30 of this year that alleged Corporal Jason Prettie was in possession of two weapons that had been in police custody in Minnedosa in 2009.

Police say investigators found a rifle and a shotgun that did not belong to Prettie in a private residence connected to him.

Prettie is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of a weapon obtained by commission of an offence, and two counts of obstruct justice.

Prettie is suspended with pay pending the outcome of judicial proceedings. He is due in court next Tuesday.
