The president of Keystone Agricultural Producers says farmers are now at the part of the year where timely rains are important for growing a bumper crop.
Dan Mazier says while the Parkland is one of the driest regions of the province, where he farms in the Melita area is a different story.
"I farm down in the Southwest and Melita is extremely wet. There's that little tiny edge in Manitoba, then as you move into eastern Manitoba, they're actually getting lots of rain this year so it's pretty much a mixed bag."
Mazier says it's important now to have timely rains throughout the summer and not have any drought situations occur.
"Nobody wins in a drought, I think that's the more concerning part. At least with wetness, you get some grass growing, the guys with cattle and livestock out on the pasture and the sheep guys, they can grow some product and get some feed for their animals in a wet cycle. When you get a drought cycle, nobody wins on this one."
Mazier says despite the late frost that occurred this spring, most KAP members have a good crop growing in several areas of the province.
