The Canadian Federation of Independent Business has concerns over the province's bill to extend PTSD coverage for all workers eligible for compensation through the WCB.
Under proposed legislation, a worker diagnosed with PTSD by a medical professional will be presumed to have got the condition through their occupation.
Elliot Sims, Manitoba director of provincial affairs, says the CFIB is afraid policy change is coming before policy analysis.
"We haven't seen any information provided by the government to show that there is a long lag time between somebody getting an analysis of PTSD, between that and getting treatment. And secondly, there's going to be significant costs to implement this for all workers," says Sims.
Minister of Labour and Immigration Erna Braun says conversations regarding presumptive PTSD have been ongoing for years.
Minister Braun also says the infrastructure around claims already exists, so there may be an increase in applications, but she doesn't believe it will affect assessment rate.
She says discussions with a variety of stakeholders led to the amendment, and experience will provide more information.
