A provincial program that keeps track of the number of mosquitoes that carry the West Nile Virus has found no infected mosquitoes in the Parkland.
Adult mosquito trapping began during the week of May 24-30 for the West Nile Virus, adult mosquito surveillance program.
Dr. Amy Frykoda with Manitoba Health says there's a specific breed of mosquito this program is looking for.
"In those communities, it is looked at if those specific types of mosquito that carry West Nile are there. That type of mosquito is called Culex Tarsalis, so they check if that is collected in the traps. Then they also look at those mosquitoes and see if any of those mosquitoes are carrying the West Nile Virus. This is all documented and you can find this on the Manitoba website."
Frykoda says a few Culex Tarsalis mosquitoes have been found in the province, but they've all been in communities south of Winnipeg.
