Lamb and sheep producers in the Parkland will soon have learning opportunities on how to better sell their animals through a new marketing board.

The Manitoba Sheep Association recently took the first steps to creating a new Sheep Enhancement Board. Kate Basford, the northwest director, and also a Winnipegosis sheep producer, talks about what the board is and what it will offer.

“It would be an umbrella board under the Manitoba Sheep Association which one of the components that we would do would be to enhance the marketing ability of sheep producers. That being through education and the second component another voluntary option which to market their lambs and their sheep.”

There is a strong demand for lamb with big potential to expand, but producers are calling for the organization to give them a better understanding of the markets and how they can operate in it.
