Dozens of volunteers in Winnipeg crocheted heaps of plastic bags over the weekend into sleeping mats for the homeless.
Organizer Tessa Blakie Whitecloud says the death of a 53-year old woman outside Portage Place mall last winter was a catalyst for the project.
The volunteers hoped to make 25 sleeping mats, which are lightweight, easy to wash and provide cushioned protection from a hard and cold floor.
