A local nurse in Dauphin has some tips for people looking to stay healthy during the summertime.
Melanie Hawranik-Sobering, a public health nurse at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre, says if you're going to spend a lot of time out in the sun, remember to put on sunscreen.
"Health Canada recommends that people wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, apply it about 20 minutes before you go out. Another thing to pay attention to is the UV index. Usually with the UV index, between 3 and 7 you need extra protection. If it's 8 or higher, then maybe stay indoors between the peak hours of about 11:00am to 4:00pm when the rays are at their strongest."
Hawranik-Sobering also recommends drinking plenty of water before feeling thirsty to avoid getting dehydration.
