The City of Dauphin is appealing Stats Canada’s population Census data.
Sharla Griffiths talks about how the city came to the conclusion that the real population is larger then what the data shows.
" Between 2011 and 2016, those statistics show that the number of dwelling units in Dauphin decreased, and the city of Dauphin council has directed administration to work to increase the amount of dwelling units that we have to increase our population and grow our community."
There is an economic advantage to having a larger population.
Griffiths says some federal and provincial funding is based on the population and the city has concluded that the reassessment will increase how much funding we receive.
