The provincial government will impose a 25 dollar a tonne price of carbon starting next year.
25 dollars is half of what the federal government’s plan would carry out. With the Manitoba plan, an average house will save 245 dollars a year compared to the federal plan. This will let the province have the second lowest carbon price in the country by 2022.
This plan is expected to drop carbon emissions by more than one megatonne over the next 5 years. That’s 80 thousand more than the federal carbon tax. Pallister says his government wants to make Manitoba the cleanest, greenest and most climate-resilient province in Canada.
The government’s A Made-in-Manitoba Climate and Green Plan was announced this morning.
