The provincial government is moving to pass Bill 24.
The bill is otherwise called The Red Tape Reduction and Government Efficiency Act. One of the main components is the removal of anaerobic digester requirements for pig operations. Mike Teillet the Manager of Sustainable Development Programs for Manitoba Pork says why this is important.
“Now it will be removed we can, sort of, go back building barns. And we think that that’s a good thing. We need some renewal in the industry.”
Anaerobic digesters cost producers up to 2 million dollars to install leaving little opportunity for producers to enter the sector.
