Winnipeg police Const. Justin Holz has been charged with impaired driving causing death and failure to remain at the scene after pedestrian Cody Severight was fatally struck by a vehicle on Tuesday.
At around 8 Tuesday night in the area of Main Street and Sutherland Avenue, a vehicle driven by off-duty Winnipeg police Const. Justin Holz, who is 34, struck 23-year-old Cody Severight. Severight was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Holz was detained and taken into custody in the area of Main Street and Red River Boulevard.
The officer was arrested on allegations of impaired driving causing death and failure to stop and remain at the scene of an accident. He was released from custody on a promise to appear in court November 22.
