Carpentry & Woodworking students at Assiniboine Community College are building a net-zero energy home this academic year.

Natural Resources Canada has put in funding of almost 183,000 dollars in order to help with the building of the project.

Gabe Mercier, the director of the Assiniboine  Community College Campus in Dauphin, talks about what a net zero home is:

“The project is based on the idea that the house will consume as much as it gives out. There are energy systems built in to the house that during the winter it will be consuming energy, but during the summer it will be giving to the line. And so over the year it will be net-zero energy usage.”

The public will have an opportunity to view the home at the Co-op ready to move site, across from the Assiniboine  Campus.
