The RM of Dauphin announced at their council meeting today that they are terminating their participation in the agreement for Dauphin Recreation Services.
Reeve Dennis Forbes says they want their relationship with DRS to continue, but they want to see some changes take place in the agreement
"We feel that the agreement is quite outdated, focusing basically on the cost of recreation funding in the community, and we would like to renegotiate a new agreement, simple as that."
Terry Payne, general manager of Dauphin Rec Services says there won’t be any immediate impact on their operations from today’s announcement because their budget for 2015 has already been approved by both the City and RM.
Payne says he’s hopeful the two sides can reach a new agreement.
"I understand the RM's desire to renegotiate. There's definitely been lots of changes in both the city and the RM since the agreement was struck and that's something that our board at DRS isn't involved in. That's really up to the city and the RM to decide the best approach moving forward."
In a press release the RM of Dauphin council says they are looking at negotiating a more equitable agreement based on the benefits received by both sides from DRS.
