It won't be done in time for the Centennial celebrations, but Winnipegosis' harbour is getting a facelift.

The federal government has announced it is investing in upgrades for the harbour.

Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette MP Robert Sopuck credits the community for working hard to get the funding.

He says he's always been impressed with the waterfront area and can see a lot of potential.

"The dock in Winnipegosis is very old and is quite inadequate in terms of what the community needs. I'm very impressed with Winnipegosis. I think the harbour area and the beauty of the lake and the setting of the community is ideal for increasing tourism, and I think a new dock facility will certainly help that, in addition to being very helpful for the commercial fishing industry in the area."

The existing dock is being resurfaced. Work is expected to begin in summer and completed in the fall.
