MTS says restoring service to Camperville and nearby communities will require an extensive repair process.
A fire at 1:45 this morning destroyed an MTS building and equipment in Camperville, cutting phone and Internet service to approximately 615 customers in that community, Duck Bay, and Smoky Island.
MTS says it is exploring temporary solutions to provide some limited service. It says full repairs require demolition of the damaged building and the installation and configuration of a new building and equipment, which is en route from Winnipeg.
MTS estimates the new building will be installed by Saturday but installation of all the required equipment and facilities is expected to take several more days.
