A bit of confusion with a previously-run story.
CKDM ran a story stating Assiniboine Community College Parkland campus carpentry and woodworking students received cash awards yesterday.
In fact, a $2,000 cash award split between the two top students was given in December, and the remaining $3,000 that is split between students who achieved a 70 per cent average or higher will be given out in June. Yesterday was a formal acknowledgment of the students' success, with Sylvain Paquet from the Dauphin Co-op Building Centre on hand.
The money the students receive comes from the sale of a home they build, at $5,000 above the cost of materials.
Paquet says the construction of the houses is typically finished by June 1.
Danielle Adriaansen, public affairs manager for ACC, says this year's home hasn't been sold yet. She says three homes have been sold before their completion since the program first partnered with Co-op in 2007.
Adriaansen says the province matches these types of donations, with those funds going towards scholarships, bursaries, and awards.
