Manitoba's Conservation Minister says a two-year freeze on cottage fee hikes would make the gap between cost to services provided and what cottage-owners pay in fees even wider.
The Opposition Tories are calling for a two-year moratorium on increases to cottage fees in provincial parks, saying the government needs to be transparent about where that money goes and why the hikes are needed.
Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh says the increases are about ensuring everyone pays their fair share, or else the costs for services will generally fall on taxpayers.
PC conservation critic Shannon Martin says there's a discrepency in what constitutes a fair share.
