Four types of cancers combined are expected to account for about half of all cancers in Manitoba and Canada.
The Canadian Cancer Society's annual report recently showed people between the ages of 50 and 79 will represent 70 per cent of all new cancers.
Director of Public Issues at the Manitoba Branch, Erin Crawford says one cancer is definitely caused from smoking.
"Even though there's 200 different kinds of cancer, there are 4 cancers that make up over 50% of all cancer cases... the reasons why are some what complicated and depend on each specific cancer, lung cancer for example certainly is because of tobacco use."
Colorecteral, breast, and prostate cancer are the other cancers that make up a majority of cases.
