The speed limit is being raised for a large chunk of Highway 1 in Manitoba.

Premier Greg Selinger announced today about 240 kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway from Winnipeg to Saskatchewan will have it's speed limit increased to 110 kilometres per hour, effective June 2nd.

The government says some areas around Virden, Brandon, Carberry, Portage la Prairie, Elie, and Headingley will be excluded because of road geometry and the locations of traffic signals.

Premier Selinger credits Manitoba governmnent investments for making the increased speed limit possible.
